Ah, yes, fishing. It's kind of like golfing. You either love it, or you hate it. Me, I LOVE it!! It gives my life meaning, purpose, resolve. And it's a great way to contemplate one's navel whilst awaiting that catch of a lifetime to pick up one's hook and worm. Besides, golf sucks!
The fish species listed in the drop down box below are major ones I search for in the Ottawa River, where I do most of my line time. They are in order of my own personal preference, so don't be surprised.
Since the vast majority of my fishing has been thru simple trial and error, most of what you will read here comes from personal experience only. I've read the magazines, talked to the "experts", and tried their suggestions. Sometimes worked, sometimes not. If you find a glaring mistake around here or want to, um, educate me on the finer points, send me an email and I shall take it under advisement.
As my fishing has been severely curtailed in the past few years due to the lack of a car, canoe, and various health issues, specific updates to these pages will be rare. I'll give it my best to show what I've learned without resorting to repeating the same mistakes over and over again. Also, keep in mind that it's a royal pain to haul all my gear back and forth on the public transit system and that alone restricts my fishing. Maybe I gotta start fishing the Ernie way!
Note: I am available if you are in need of a fishing partner.
nudge-nudge, wink-wink, email-email
During my researches for the production of these fishy pages, I discovered a web site of great information. It covers all (and I mean ALL) of the different varieties of fish found in the Ottawa, or National Capitol, Region. From abundant fish like the Rock Bass to the more obscure and rare Cutthroat Trout, this site gives data on fish descriptions, locales, breeding habits, images, and pretty well anything else you could possibly want to know about local Ottawa fish. Heck, Goldfish even get a mention. There's also the odd note on how to angle for some of them!
